Revelations at the weekend that chairman of Carlton Communications, Michael Green, had contributed ‘considerable’ donations to the Conservative party during the period of franchise awards, could mean that Green will lose out on becoming chairman of ITN in the future.
Labour MPs are putting pressure on the Independent Television Commission to investigate the matter, claiming that no other ITV company has ever made any such political contributions. Green’s impartiality is being called into question and may hinder the Carlton-led consortium in its attempts to take over financially troubled ITN.
