A new forecast from GroupM predicts that global media spend will grow 3.5% this year, to $452 billion.
Next year, worldwide spending is expected to hit $471 billion, a rise of 4.5%.
Western European media spending is forecast to increase 2.1% to $102 billion this year, followed by a 2.3% rise next year, to $104 billion.
It’s not so positive for the US, however, with a decline of 1.3% expected this year, to $145 billion, although next year looks brighter, with 2.5% growth taking spending to $149 billion.
Report author Adam Smith said: “What continues to power the medium is the steady advance in creativity, analysis and technology, which embeds digital in almost all marketing activity.
“Measured internet added two points of global ad share in each of 2007, 2008 and 2009, and we think it will sustain a rate of one point a year this year and next, to reach 16% in 2011.”
ZenithOptimedia’s latest UK and global adspend growth forecasts predict UK growth of 1.3% this year and global growth of 2.2%.
