According to traffic figures released today by ABCe, the Guardian website increased its unique users* to 20.6 million over the month of July.
There was also good news for Times Online and Sun Online as they too reported record usage. However, the figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulation show mixed results over July with three sites reporting falls in users.
Although it lost nearly one million users from June, Telegraph.co.uk remains the second most visited sight out of the seven national titles audited by ABCe. Despite the loss the Telegraph is still looking healthy, increasing the amount of unique users in the past year to 108.5%.
Mail Online saw a sharp fall last month but has swiftly recovered, gaining over 2.5 million users over July. This brings the total number of unique users to 18.7 million, just shy of the all time high reported in May.
This means Times Online has fallen to fourth position with a rise in users of just 0.01%. However, this was enough for the site to report another record figure two months in a row with over 16 million users.
The Sun Online’s unique user figure now stands at 15.9 million. This is a YOY increase of an extremely impressive 69.3%. And due to its extremely popular domains the News International site also raised the bar again with 29 million page impressions across the month.
The Independent remained the sixth most visited site, but showed a loss in activity. User numbers were down 8.7% from last month, leaving the total number of users at 6.5 million. It’s not all bad news though, as there has been an increase of 88% since the Independent began releasing figures in August of last year.
There was similar news for the Mirror Digital Network, which only began releasing traffic figures in March of this year. While it is the least visited of all the ABCe audited nationals, there has been a steady increase in users since that period. July has been the first loss they have had, down 4.6%, bringing the total to 5.8 million users.
*ABCe defines Unique User as “The total number of unique combinations of a valid identifier, Sites may use (i)IP+UserAgent, (ii) Cookie and/or (iii) Registration ID.” Note that where USERS are allocated IP addresses dynamically (for example by dial-up Internet Service Providers), this definition may overstate or understate the real number of individual USERS concerned.
