Harris Sees A Return To Growth For Online Population

According to the latest data from The Harris Poll, two thirds (66%) of all adults are now online. This total includes 55% of all adults who access the internet from home and 30% who access it from work. One in five adults get their internet access from a school, library, cyber cafe or other location. Some users, of course, access the net from more than one location.

This demonstrates a modest increase in the internet penetration since last fall, the total number online has increased from 64% to 66%, the number who go online from home is up from 52% to 55% and the number online at work has increased from 28% to 30%.

The slowdown in the economy and the so-called bursting of the dot.com bubble slowed internet growth in 2001 but it seems now as though there is evidence of a return to growth. More affluent, better educated consumers continue to make up the bulk of the online population and over 65s comprise 16% of all adults but only 5% of those online.
