HomeChoice Sets Out Next Generation Network Plans

HomeChoice Logo Video Networks Ltd (VNL), provider of London’s on-demand TV and broadband service, HomeChoice, has announced its plans to roll out ADSL2+ technology across its network, vastly increasing its internet connection speeds and the range of services available to customers.

The move, made following formal approval of ADSL2+’s technical specification, will allow the company to offer more bandwidth and more services to customers. The company has already completed its first tests, which proved the new technology’s potential to provide internet speeds of up to 24 Mbps.

Dean Hawkins, chief operating officer at HomeChoice welcomed the innovation, stating: “I and am very excited about the new range of products and services [ADSL2+] will enable us to deliver in the future. It is a key time for the business as we are making significant changes to our brand positioning and have recently launched new pricing and packaging – including an 8Mb broadband internet service.”

The move to ADSL2+ will play a key part in HomeChoice’s continuing strategy of development, making it the first broadband operator to adopt the advanced broadband technology.

The switch to ADSL2+ follow’s HomeChoice’s move to MPEG-4 advanced encoding for its television channels, which allows better quality broadcasts to be delivered with less bandwidth, allowing space for more channels and interactive services.

Earlier this year saw cable operator NTL begin testing of ADSL2+ technology, providing high definition TV services via phone lines and avoiding the cost of installing expensive fibre optic lines (see NTL Trials High Definition TV With Ultra Fast Broadband).
