HomeChoice To Launch TV Based Music Download Service

HomeChoice To Launch TV Based Music Download Service

Video Networks Ltd, owners of broadband and digital TV providers HomeChoice, has announced that it is working with 7 Digital Media to launch the first ever television service enabling viewers to download music as they watch.

The service will allow HomeChoice customers to buy tracks through their mobile phones as they watch them on Video Networks’ V:MX music channels. Each song will have its own unique number which customers must text to receive a download code, the song can then be downloaded at www.vmx.co.uk. Customers will also be able to download music from Video Networks full online download store at the V:MX web site.

Video Networks will continue to develop the service with the aim that customers will be able to order tracks directly through their remote control. Customers ordering music via their remotes will automatically be sent an email to their HomeChoice account providing a URL link to download their chosen music.

As well as the TV tracks the online music store will contain a full library of 30,000 downloadable tracks, which will increase to half a million by mid 2005. Downloads will cost 99p when accessed directly from the online store and £1.50 when obtained via the TV using a mobile phone.

Rodger Lynch, chairman and chief executive of Video Networks said: “Video Networks V:MX music channels have already been recognised for their excellent service. By offering a music download service that will span both TV and the Internet, Video Networks is demonstrating how technological convergence is truly becoming a reality for the everyday consumer.”

Ben Dury, managing director of 7 Digital Media said: “We are delighted to be working with Video Networks on this truly ground breaking service, which is one of the first that brings together broadband, TV and mobile to provide a superior product.”

HomeChoice is currently available only to residents inside the M25, however Video Networks have recently announced plans to extend its services, covering a additional 100,000 home across London and the South East. 1.25 million households are currently able to receive HomeChoice products (see HomeChoice Boosts Coverage To Customers Outside London).
