Internet-Delivered TV Set To Grow, Says Strategy Analytics

Television provided via the internet, whilst still largely in the planning stages, could become a significant entertainment platform in the second half of the decade, according to a new report from Strategy Analytics.

A global survey of over 30 commercial and planned internet protocol television (IPTV) systems, shows that Asia-Pacific and Europe are likely to lead the way in deployment, although most telecommunications companies still have IPTV roll-out on hold.

Strategy Analytics says that the IPTV system can reduce costs for service providers, but that they must first win the support of content providers.

The number of IPTV homes worldwide is expected to rise from just 110,000 in 2002 to 20.4 million by 2008.
