The new BBC iPlayer app for the iPad was downloaded 54,511 times in the 24 hours following its release in iTunes last Thursday.
55% of all programming requests from the iPad that day came from the new iPlayer app, while its Android equivalent picked up 50% of all requests from Android devices.
Between last Wednesday and Thursday, iPad and Android requests grew by 111% and 228% respectively, according to Broadband TV News.
The new iPlayer apps, launched specifically for the Apple iPad and Android-based tablets, allows users to watch live TV and access the BBC’s full catalogue of catch-up content, seven-days’ TV and demand as well as series stacking.
