IPC Reloads Web User With More Content

IPC Country & Leisure has announced a major revamp for its Web User magazine, comprising a new look, increased pagination and more content debuting in its 14 October issue.

As part of the change the magazine will include a printed copy of its digital brand, Downloaded. The addition will appear in a new centre section, giving readers a unique guide to music, film, television and games downloads on the internet.

Downloaded was launched earlier this year and was, until now, only available in electronic form, comprising listings of the latest additions to the web, the best downloads and where to find them (see IPC’s Web User Launches Digital Spin-Off Magazine). In digital form the title provides links to new music, film, television and games content, however these will be less interactive and are likely to be simply spelled out for readers of the printed edition.

In addition to Downloaded, the new look title sees the introduction of two new sections: Instant Expert, offering readers a series of guides to specific web software or applications, and Web User Essentials, a new regular guide to the web’s best products and services.

The magazine’s popular Best New Websites and Letters pages will also be expanded, as will the title’s Downloads of the Fortnight and Most Wanted sections, covering the month’s must have gadgets.

Commenting on the redesign, editor Richard Clark said: “We have been working on the idea for a Downloaded section for over a year now and we were waiting for the right time to incorporate it into the main magazine. We really feel that now is the moment as legitimate downloading, particularly of music, is about to take off.”

IPC’s decision to merge its online and print brands echoes a move made by the publisher earlier this month to spin off its TV & Satellite Week magazine into digital form. The move makes the title available both online and in paper form, although the digital edition is also able to carry multimedia content such as programme trailers and previews (see TV & Satellite Week Publishes Digital Edition).
