ITC Obtains Assurances From Granada TV

A formal commitment to quality has been secured by the ITC from Granada Group chief executive Gerry Robinson and chairman Alex Bernstein, following fears sparked by the forced resignation of David Plowright, Chief executive of Granada TV

Robinson and Bernstein confirmed that programme pledges would be properly resourced to allow the company to meet the range and quality set out in Granada’s Channel 3 application and incorporated into the licence.

Granada bid only £9m for its licence, compared with a bid of £35.3m by Phil Redmond’s Mersey TV. Mersey TV failed ITC OBTAINS ASSURANCES FROM GRANADA to pass the quality threshold;Plowright had been described as a ‘one-man quality guarantee’ for the Granada bid.

Following yesterday’s meeting, ITC chairman George Russell commented: “I am confident that Granada Group will give Granada Television the whole- hearted backing it needs to fulfill the terms of its licence.”
