The Independent Television Commission (ITC) is to begin an enquiry today into allegations that Granada Television has broken its original franchise contract by failing to meet programme requirements as well as being involved in the “savage butchery of jobs” (Newsline 25/2).
Heritage secretary, Peter Brooke has also received a copy of the letter which started the controversy, sent by Labour spokeswoman Ann Clwyd. Granada is defending its position, claiming that the dossier is “ill-founded and inaccurate” and is now considering its response to the Commission.
