ITV Dramas Lined Up For Autumn

During his speech at TV93 in Monte Carlo yesterday, chief executive of the ITV Network Centre, Andrew Quinn revealed that the network has commissioned 18 drama productions for the Autumn 1993 season, the first to be planned and scheduled under the new centralised network structure.

Amongst the dramas commissioned are Maxwell, the life story of a newspaper tycoon (LWT), The Wolves are Howling starring Dennis Waterman, about an SAS officer out for revenge (YTV) and Cracker with Robbie Coltrane as a new breed of detective (Granada). Quinn confirmed that Coronation Street is safe on the network’s screens and that from September ITV would transmit a network repeat of each episode in the following daytime schedule.

“The future of the television market in the UK lies in major programme invest- ment and landmark scheduling” he says, “If we fail in either, we will accelerate fragmentation. And this will be to advertising’s detriment”.
