ITV Draws Up Two Candidate Shortlists For Top Job

ITV has drawn up two shortlists of candidates for the chief executive job, with three names on each list.

According to a report in the Guardian, there is an A list and a B list of possible replacements for Charles Allen.

However, the Guardian says that whilst some candidates have been approached by Sir Bob Phillis or other members of the ITV board, they have not been contacted by headhunters Zygos. Meanwhile, other possible candidates have only been appraoched by Zygos.

The board of ITV apparently met on Monday to discuss potential candidates, with names in the frame believed to include Stephen Carter, head of Ofcom; Stewart Till, chief executive of United International Pictures; Michael Jackson, former head of Channel 4; and Richard Eyre, former chief executive of ITV networks (see ITV Board Meets To Discuss Allen’s Successor).

Favourite for the role is Stephen Carter, who has been placed on Gardening leave by Ofcom until March next year. The Guardian reports a source as saying that the ITV board was attempting to elongate the process until December, when it would appear more acceptable to unveil Carter as the new head of the broadcaster.
