Jill Dando Investigation Gets 4.5 Million Viewers

BBC Logo A peak audience of 4.5 million adults (a 21.9% audience share) tuned into the Panorama programme on Jill Dando’s murder yesterday evening, with the BBC1 show managing an average audience of 4.4 million adult viewers (a 21.1% share) across its hour long running time.

It was a good night for BBC1, as it kept in front of ITV1 most of the evening, although The One Show, with a peak audience of 3.5 million adults, was soundly beaten by Emmerdale, which attracted a peak of 6.7 million adults (a 39% audience share).

However, from 7.30pm onwards, Eastenders, Holby City and then the Panorama investigation, all stayed resolutely ahead of the chasing pack.

Eastenders managed to bring in a peak of just over eight million adults (a 44% audience share) in its 7.30pm timeslot, and managed an average audience of 7.7 million adults (a 43% audience share).

A large amount of viewers then stayed with BBC1 and watched the hospital drama Holby City, which attracted an average audience of 6.2 million adults during its hour running time.

On Channel 4, Supernanny did reasonably well, attracting a peak audience of 3.1 million adults in its 9pm slot, beating the ITV1 movie, The Bourne Identity, in the process. The Matt Damon action film peaked with 2.8 million adults.

Channel Five also had a relatively strong night, with its two CSI shows, Miami and NY on from 9pm-11pm, managing average audiences of 2.6 million and 2 million adults respectively.
