Job Seekers Reluctant To Use Online Resources

56% of job seekers plan to use the internet when looking for their next job, but only 6% say that it will replace more traditional methods, according to research commissioned by Times Newspapers.

The research, which was carried out by BMRB to examine how the “British Elite” look for jobs, shows that the internet will not play as strong a role in the job search as has often been predicted, with newspapers and recruitment consultancies remaining the preferred choice.

According to the study, 94% of job seekers plan to use the internet in conjunction with other methods when looking for their next job. However, 25% of respondents expressed confusion about using the internet and the majority said they prefer to search for jobs offline.

Of those that had been online to look for jobs, applying for a position via the internet was not considered an option, and of those that had visited online recruitment consultancies, 1 in 4 did not know which one.

The research also predicts that the “next generation” of job seekers will prove increasingly difficult to target, with 84% of 15-24 year-old respondents saying they would only look for jobs online if they could find a trustworthy brand.
