Jobs set to go at ITV as part of “online revamp”

The appointment of Julian March as ITV online director is set to put 40 jobs out of 100 at risk at the company.

March will be responsible for managing ITV’s online operations, which include the broadcaster’s catch-up service, ITV Player and websites for programmes including The Only Way Is Essex.

An article in the Guardian suggested that the majority of the 40 positions under threat are editorial. A four-week consultation on the cost-cutting measures being employed by the broadcaster, which were communicated to staff yesterday (5 July), has begun.

ITV is looking to separate its online division into three sectors – business planning, editorial and online products – and increase its video-on-demand services and develop interactive viewing.

Managing director of commercial and online, Fru Hazlitt said: “Online has an increasingly important part to play in our transformation strategy as the behaviour of our audiences evolves and changes across multiple platforms.

“As a commercial broadcaster it is vital that ITV’s focus continues to reflect that changing consumer behaviour in order to achieve the best commercial opportunities.”
