Johnson Reappointed Chairman Of Channel 4

Broadband The Ofcom Board has announced that Luke Johnson has been reappointed as chairman of Channel 4 for an additional three year term, to last until 2010.

Johnson has been chairman since January 2004, during which period the corporation has increased its audience share, attracted positive support for its programme schedule and improved its profitability.

The reappointment comes ahead of a planned financial review of Channel 4 by Ofcom later this year, with the watchdog stating that the review will assess the extent to which the corporation provides value for money and examine its long-term funding requirements through and after the digital switchover.

Under Section 23 of the Broadcasting Act 1990, Ofcom is responsible for overseeing the appointment of the Chairman of the Channel 4 Board.

Ofcom Chairman David Currie said: “Luke is an excellent Chairman and ambassador for Channel 4, combining a commercial focus with a strong personal commitment to the principles of public service broadcasting.”
