Johnston Press Sees Positive Second Half

Regional newspaper publisher Johnston Press this morning said that trading for the first five months of the year has been better than expected, with like for like advertising revenues up 3% on the same period last year.

In its pre-close period trading statement, Johnston said that despite the prevailing mood of economic uncertainty, it expects continued modest revenue growth. Cost control will help to offset the increased cost of newsprint, it added.

The board remains positive about prospects for the remainder of 2001 and is confident of delivering a satisfactory result for the year as a whole. The positive news comes amidst a poor period for many media companies, with revenues falling and profits being negatively hit.
