Channel 4 has appointed Jonathan Allan, managing director of media buying agency OMD UK, to run its £1 billion a year TV and online sales business.
He was one of six candidates shortlisted for the job, with other contenders understood to have included Channel 4 insiders Errol Baran and Mike Parker, UKTV’s Julia Jordan and Omnicom’s John Overend.
Allan joined OMD in 1995 as a graduate TV buyer and was promoted to TV director five years later. He became deputy managing director in 2005 and managing director two years later, aged 32.
Allan added: “I have worked with Channel 4 as both client and media partner for many years, so I am extremely excited to be given the opportunity to shape and direct the sales team to maximise its revenue potential.”
