Laser Broadcasting To Launch Online Radio Station

Online Radio Laser Broadcasting is launching an online radio station in order to reinforce its position in the marketplace.

Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the new service will target the 35-64 age group.

Laser says that there will be a mix of music and news and in a programme line-up that will also act as a showcase for the local radio stations which Laser owns.

The service will draw from the best of the editorial output from those stations as well as generating its own exclusive material.

Laser Broadcasting currently owns and operates BCR and Quay West in Somerset, Classic Hits in Hereford and Worcester and Sunshine Radio in Ludlow as well as holding a major interest in Fresh Radio in Yorkshire.

Launched in 2002, the company plans to have 15 radio stations through either acquisition or licence applications by next year. The company is moving towards an AIM flotation by the end of 2007.

The broadcaster says that the strategy behind the online service is to provide Laser with a national profile as well as the company’s first step towards the digital marketplace.

Stuart Linnell, Laser Broadcasting director, said: “The launch of our online service is yet another major milestone in our programme of growth. The fact that it provides us with a much needed national profile will prove to be invaluable to our continuing development.”

Laser OnLine will be managed by Paul Roberts, who will continue to oversee the RSL station’s set up to help Laser lobby for and win new licences.
