Chrysalis-owned LBC is venturing on to the DAB digital network, meaning the London radio station will be able to broadcast regionally.
The station, which has won several awards, could potentially broadcast to 17 million listeners nationally. Programmes that are currently heard in the Capital on FM and DAB digital will, from September, be broadcast on DAB in the north west, west midlands, Yorkshire, the north east, south Wales and the West as well in London.
Managing director of LBC 97.3 FM, David Lloyd, said: “We’ve always had an impressive response to the personalities on LBC programmes from outside London, so it’s perfect to be able to deliver our distinctive 24-hour conversation more readily now to so many new regions on DAB.”
The regional services will carry the same entertainment content and presenters, such as Iain Lee, the co-host of former defunct Channel 4 breakfast show Rise, but will have a regional news and information focus.
Last night the station descended into chaos during Lee’s programme, as a technical error meant that a caller was able to expel a string of expletives at the presenter on air.
