Alan Yentob, newly appointed controller of BBC1, is now faced with the task of deciding whether to keep on failing Spanish based soap, Eldorado, or to axe the show now that it has reached its “critical period”.
In making such decisions Yentob is assuring that he is “unequivocally more interested in quality” than in playing the ratings game, offering the audience genuine choice and producing “distinctive” programmes. He has taken over from Jonathan Powell who left for Carlton TV at the end of last year.
