Life On Mars remained strong against the brawling scenes of the Champion’s League, luring almost 5.5 million adults to BBC One once again, compared to the football’s average of 4.6 million.
The 1970s time-glitch crime drama gave the channel a 24.2% viewing share, up slightly from its series two debut last week (see Life On Mars Firmly Grounded In Peaktime), whilst the controversy of Manchester United’s 1-0 win over the team’s French opponents gained a 21.5% share for the UK’s biggest commercial station.
Holby City and Eastenders, aired during the match, did well for BBC One as well. Holby attracted 5.6 million on average (26%) whilst the ever more cringe-worthy affair between Walford’s town bike Stacey and the slithering Max in Eastenders, was seen by around 8.2 million (40.7%).
Channel 4’s Never Did Me Any Harm, which sees four modern families turning back the clock so that the children can live as their parents did, took more than 2.1 million (9.5%), whilst the residents of the Chatsworth Estate in Shameless charmed more than 2.7 million (16%), both up slightly from last week.
Five’s CSI double bill proved popular yet again for the station, with CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and CSI: Miami taking viewing figures of 2.7 million and 2.4 million respectively, equating to a share of more than 12% for the first show and around 14% for the second.
