Liverpool Beaten By BBC One

Liverpool Manager Liverpool might have picked up a record win in the footer on ITV1 last night, but it was not enough to beat the drama double-whammy on BBC One, with Holby City and Spooks grabbing more adult viewers.

On at 9pm, Spooks had a peak of 5.3 million adults, a 24.5% share of the audience, with an average of five million adults sticking with it for its hour long duration.

It was another intense instalment of double-dealing espionage, with the hunky Rupert Penry Jones almost coming a cropper after getting in too deep.

The fast-paced medical entertainment Holby City picked up a peak of 5.5 million adult viewers in its 8pm slot (a 24.1% share) with Robert Powell getting shopped to his daughter over his cocaine habit.

ITV1’s evening was dominated by the Champions League football match between Liverpool and Turkish side Besiktas and it was a real treat for connoisseurs of the beautiful game, as the mighty Reds ran in eight goals without reply.

The game, which ended with the biggest winning margin in Champions League history, had a peak audience of 4.9 million adults (a 21.9% share).

An average of 4.3 million adults stayed with the festival of goals for the duration of the coverage.
