The London Evening Standard has launched its British Airways sponsored mobile app.
The mobile news service is available free-of-charge on most handsets, including the iPhone, Blackberry and Google Android smartphones.
As with the popular Guardian app, users will be able to browse through sections of the title such as sport, business, showbiz and style.
Users can also customise the app to see their favourite news stories and features using a “My Feeds” tab.
The US mobile company Handmark has developed the Standard‘s app to refresh automatically, although users will also have the option to read articles offline.
In addition, content from the app can be saved for reading at a later time and can be shared on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
“We are excited to introduce our new mobile application so our readers can now enjoy the convenience of having instant access to our trusted news and information, on the go,” said Tim Smith, general manager for digital at the London Evening Standard. “The mobile application provides an extremely intuitive, personalised experience and supports a great sharing experience.”
Paul Reddick, chief executive Handmark, added: “As one of the first media companies in Europe to launch a rich, connected mobile application across all major mobile platforms, the London Evening Standard continues to prove its leadership in delivering on the interests of their readers.”
