Lord Heseltine To Chair IPA Effectiveness Awards

Lord Heseltine Lord Heseltine, chairman of Haymarket Group, and president of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) is to chair the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) Effectiveness Awards.

The high-profile media figure will take the role of chairman for the judging panels, which will be made up of one group comprising client representatives and another with of media figures.

Les Binet, European director of DDB Matrix, is to become convenor of judges for the event, while Richard Storey, planning director at M&C Saatchi London, assumes the role of deputy convenor of judges.

The IPA’s annual Effectiveness Awards are this year sponsored by TV marketing body, ThinkBox, and Ulster TV, with the presentation event planned for 30 November at Belfast City Hall.

Commenting on his new role, Lord Heseltine said: “The IPA Effectiveness Awards have a legacy of being a rigorous competition, allowing only the very best cases, which have proven beyond doubt the power of marketing communications to be awarded a prize, and I am pleased to be a part of this process.”

Expressing confidence in this year’s judging panels, he continued: “This year’s judges, who will spend long hours considering each entry, have great expertise in a variety of sectors. I know that there are some interesting cases and I look forward to reading and debating them.”

Les Binet, added: “we’ve recruited some of the sharpest brains in marketing to scrutinise the entries. With experts from client companies, from agencies and from the world of research, our team looks more like a world-class consultancy firm than a judging panel. They will ensure that only those papers that conclusively prove effectiveness get through.”

The IPA recently launched the first of several online learning modules, focused on the National Readership Survey and designed to give the communication industry a better understanding of the currencies used to measure audiences.

The modules, developed in association the NRS and created by MediaTel Group, detail the survey’s capabilities, how the readership figures are calculated, what other data is available from the survey and how it can be accessed and used (see IPA To Roll Out Online Learning Modules).
