The thorn in ITV1’s side, Love Island, came to its conclusion last night, with almost 3.5 million adult viewers tuning in to see who became the winning couple of the z-list celeb bikini fest.
Having recovered some of its audience figures after the end of Big Brother on Channel 4, the programme pulled in its highest amount of viewers so far, taking a 17.3% audience share. However, watching Calum Best and Bianca Gascoigne crowned king and queen of the contest came in behind Murphy’s Law on BBC One in the 9pm slot.
The second instalment of a three-part run of the programme starring James Nesbitt, which concludes tonight, took an almost 30% audience share, and was watched by more than 5.2 million adults.
Earlier in the evening, Coronation Street proved its worth for ITV1 yet again, drawing in 7.8 million adult viewers in the 7.30pm slot, taking a more than 40% audience share. Eastenders bolstered BBC One at 8pm, being watched by more than 7.5 million adults, a more than 37% audience share.
Trauma and the News also gave BBC One a boost, taking 3.6 million and 5.4 million adult viewers respectively. The second instalment of Coronation Street on ITV1, competing with Trauma on BBC One in the 8.30pm timeslot, was watched by more than 7.7 million adult viewers, giving the programme an almost 36% share of the television viewing audience at the time.
