Amazon will be releasing a series of exclusive pilots on LoveFilm as it aims to take on television broadcasters by making web-only programmes.
The company will develop at least 11 unique pilot programmes to show on LoveFilm , including a range of comedy and childrens shows, and has signed up stars including John Goodman and Bill Murray for pilots.
The current list includes shows titled Alpha House, Browsers, The Onion Presents and Sara Solves It, and is set to rival other online film and TV services as well as broadcasters, such as Blinkbox and Netflix, which recently offered House of Cards exclusively to its subscribers.
Once ready, the pilots will be available on LoveFilm UK and Prime Instant Video, free for all subscribers.
Roy Price, director of Amazon Studios, said: “I think the distinction between a regular TV show and an online TV show will soon fade away. It just makes sense that if you’re trying to decide what TV show to make, it might be a good idea to ask customers which one they like.”
Viewers will have the opportunity to give feedback on each show, ultimately determining which pilot will get a full series order from the company.
