Capital Radio’s marketing director, Carl Lyons, has resigned from the GCap-owned radio station without another job to go to.
It is understood that he plans to return to the new media sector, having joined Capital in 2003 to launch the Johnny Vaughan Breakfast Show. As an experienced brand marketer, Lyons was responsible for brand strategy through to digital developments at the station and at this stage there are no details of a replacement for him.
He is the latest in a long line of senior ex-Capital Radio employees to depart from GCap Media since it was created following the Capital and GWR merger in May 2005 (see Capital Radio Loses Execs In Reshuffle). High profile departures in the first year of GCap’s existence include chief executive David Mansfield, only four months into the merger, and commercial director Linda Smith.
GCap-owned station Xfm has also announced that its head of music, Nigel Harding, is to leave the station to take up a position at Radio One. The departures come after GCap announced that the company’s profits had slumped (see Revamp Renders GCap Profits Down).
