Magazine event: Empire, Esquire and The Week join line-up

Senior figures from both publishing and agencies will join Mediatel and Magnetic on 10 November for a half-day event discussing the future of magazine brands.

The evolving business of magazine media – a vision for 2020, will look at how the industry is adapting to a digital future, the changing nature of its business models, and the enduring influence of professionally edited, original content.

Aviva’s group brand director Jan Gooding, Esquire editor Alex Bilmes and Empire editor Terri White will each be interviewed by Newsline editor David Pidgeon and ex-BBC media correspondent Torin Douglas to discuss some of the most pressing issues magazines are facing today – alongside two panel debates.

Chaired by Dominic Mills, the first panel will see Time Inc’s Marcus Rich, Immediate Media’s Duncan Tickell, The Week’s Kerin O’Connor and MEC’s Verra Budimlija look at the current state of play in the magazine sector – with key talking-points including how print and digital best work together, distribution strategies and editors versus algorithms.

Somethin’ Else’s Steve Ackerman, Bauer’s Hannah Rouch, Hearst’s Jane Wolfson and Contented’s Adam Bullock will form the second panel which will focus on strategies and challenges – from magazines’ relationship with Google and Facebook, to whether video will ever replace print.
