Magazines to sell subs via Facebook’s news feed

Magazine link on Facebook

Facebook users will soon be able to read a full magazine article and buy a subscription without having to leave their news feed.

Synapse, a Time Inc division, has teamed up with developer Alvenda to create a new service allowing users to expand a link to a full article within Facebook, complete with advertising and an option to buy a subscription to the magazine, according to reports.

Alix Hart, VP for online marketing at Synapse, which sells subscriptions for publishing groups, said: “Consumers don’t want to leave where they are on the web, wherever they are.

“Facebook is a place where we think that over the coming year there are going to be more and more opportunities to present magazine offers in a really relevant way to consumers, as they’re starting to share magazine content in a much deeper way than ever before.”

The system, which is expected to go live in July or August, will make it clear to users that clicking on the magazine link to read the full article or buy a subscription won’t take them away from Facebook or the news feed itself.

The revenue made from subscriptions sold via Facebook will be split between the publisher, Synapse and Alvenda.
