MGN Poaches News Corp Ad Boss For National Position

Trinity Mirror Logo Newspaper giant Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN), has appointed David Emin as its new director of advertising, poaching the media heavyweight from an identical post with arch rival News Group Newspapers.

Emin currently oversees the ad operations of The Sun and News Of The World, but will now be responsible for heading up advertising sales across the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and the People.

Reporting directly to MGN managing director Richard Webb, Emin will also be responsible for the national component of advertising sales on the Daily Record and Sunday Mail in Scotland.

Commenting on the appointment, Webb said: “I am delighted that David has chosen to join MGN. He is a highly professional and very talented individual with enormous experience in tabloid advertising sales. He is the ideal candidate and will help us make the most of our great brands.”

The move sees Emin follow in the footsteps of Webb, who moved from his position as general manager at News International in December 2005.

Prior to this, Webb was responsible for the commercial departments of the Sun and the News of the World, a position he held for five years, following a stint as advertising director for the two titles from 1995 to 2000.

Earlier this month MGN’s parent firm Trinity Mirror revealed a drop in turnover for the 52 weeks to January 1st 2006, dipping by 1.3% like for like to £1.12 billion after a slowdown in the UK economy resulted in a fall in marketing spend (see Trinity Suffers 1.3% Drop In Turnover In 2005).
