Homechoice could be bought for up to £100 million after it has reportedly held talks with various online and mobile companies.
The video-on-demand and broadband service has had a series of approaches from Vodafone and Orange, as well as internet service provider Tiscali, which is understood to be the frontrunner in the race to buy the network, which signalled that it was in financial trouble at the end of 2005.
BSkyB could also be interested in Homechoice, which Sky could use for its own plans for VoD and broadband.
Last month BSkyB bought online site mykindaplace.com (see BSkyB To Bolster New Media Presence), which it could merge with Homechoice to create a larger online presence.
Homechoice has an estimated 45,000 customers in the UK, compared to Sky’s 8.1 million customers and NTL/Telewest’s 5.5 million customers.
