Mobiles account for 17% of global web usage

Mobile phones now account for almost a fifth of all web usage across the globe, according to new research from Statista.

Asia accounted for the greatest amount of mobile web usage in July 2013 at 26.6%, compared with 18.8% in July 2012, followed by Africa (23.7% v 11.3%) and North America (15.2% v 9.4%).

The results, which exclude tablet devices, show that worldwide mobile web usage has increased by over 6% in the last year.

South America currently accounts for the least amount of usage at 6.8%, followed by Europe (9.7%) and then Oceania (14.6%).

European mobile web usage has increased by almost 4% year on year.
