David Dimbleby’s unique look at How We Built Britain was the big winner of the 9pm ratings slot last night, with the BBC One series attracting an average adult audience of more than five million.
The epic journey around our astonishing architectural achievements gave the channel a 27% viewing share at the time, as the news veteran explored the west from Bath down to Cornwall and across to Dublin.
Meanwhile, Max Beesley’s Talk To Me, with its ever swelling web of lies and deceit, lured more than 3.2 million on average to ITV1 (14.3%), whilst the fallout from Seany’s eviction attracted just over three million (13.2%) to Channel 4’s Big Brother.
Earlier, it was ITV1 that came out on top, with nostalgic 60s police drama, Heartbeat, pulling in an average adult audience of almost 6.8 million, a 30% viewing share between 8pm and 9pm.
BBC Two’s Coast gained just shy of 3.7 million adult viewers on average in the timeslot, with presenter Neil Oliver taking his luscious mane to Cardiff marina and the gorgeous Gower Peninsula, on the latest leg of his journey.
Yorkshire vet series, The Chase, on BBC One was watched by an average of 3.5 million adults (15.4%), whilst earlier David Attenborough’s new show, Saving Planet Earth, which sees celebrities investigate wildlife conservation issues, drew in just over 4.3 million (22.4%).
BBC One attracted the most adult viewers on Saturday night, with John Simm’s masterful performance in the second last in the series of Doctor Who drawing more than 5.4 million adults on average (34.4%), followed by Casualty with more than five million (28.6%) and Jekyll with almost 3.6 million (20%).
