Most homes will have access to Connect TV by 2014

Research published by Freeview has revealed that Connect TV will be available to almost all UK homes by the end of 2014.

Connect TV provides content delivered via the internet to the Freeview electronic programming guide (EPG), and works on all compatible Freeview HD devices.

Available services include live streaming and video on demand.

Phil Walder, managing director of Connect TV said: “This research by Futuresource is great news for us. It shows that almost all UK homes will have a TV or set-top box that is Freeview HD compliant, and will therefore be able to access our connected TV channels by the end of 2014.

“That’s good news for us and also good news for the UK consumer, as it means that they will be able to access advanced connected TV services without purchasing additional hardware solutions.”

Connect TV launched in February 2012 and initially offered 45 internet-delivered channels. There are currently Freeview HD compliant devices in five million homes across the UK.
