Griff Rhys Jones’ new series, exploring the mountains of Great Britain, got off to a sizeable start on BBC One last night, gaining an average adult audience of more than 3.9 million.
The popular personality pulled in an 18.6% viewing share for the channel as he explored the bleak and rugged beauty of the north west highlands of Scotland, including the astonishing Cullins in Skye in Mountain.
It was ITV1 that won the 9pm slot last night, however, with the second film in the latest Lynda La Plante drama, The Commander, luring more than 4.9 million adults on average (23.2%).
Over on Channel 4, the fallout from loudmouthed Charley’s eviction, and the ‘halfway housemates’ of Big Brother, brought 3.1 million on average, giving the channel a 14.6% share, whilst classic Connery Bond film, From Russia With Love, brought over 2.5 million (13%) to BBC Two.
Friday’s BB shows were watched by 3.8 million (19.6%) and 4.4 million (23.6%) respectively, with ITV1’s repeat of Midsomer Murders gaining an audience of more than 4.2 million adults between 8.30pm and 10.30pm, whilst 2.8 million tuned in to Little Britain Downunder on BBC One between 9pm and 10pm.
Saturday’s Dance X on BBC One, meanwhile, dropped viewers, with 3.5 million on average seeing Bruno’s luck run out as Becky was dropped from his troupe.
