Multiplayer tech takes radio quiz to new level

Bauer-owned Magic AM has launched a new interactive on-air quiz that uses multiplayer technology to allow thousands of radio listeners to play live against each other via their phone handsets.

Listeners will be encouraged to call in and only those that answer correctly with their phone touch pads will stay on the line – people who get a question wrong are automatically eliminated.

Whoever is left at the end of the round will win a cash prize of £1,000 split equally between the finalists. That could be £1,000 for one person, £500 for two, or £50 for 20.

Bauer will also generate revenue from calls, which are charged at £1 from a BT landline.

Simon Willis at Wise Buddha told Newsline that if the pilot is successful then in the next six months to a year, they could be looking into developing the idea into a full app, which would give advertisers more detailed consumer information as interactions are played out.

Players can join by tuning into Magic FM or via the Magic FM webstream.
