According to the Los Angeles Times, Rupert Murdoch is going to launch a digital newspaper in America, which would be distributed as paid content for the iPad, and mobile phones.
This follows Murdoch recently saying that tablet computers, such as the iPad, would be the “perfect platform” for up-to-date News Corp content.
When reporting News Corp’s financial results last week, he also said: “I think we’re going to see, around the world, hundreds and hundreds of millions of these [tablet] devices… We’ll have young people reading newspapers.”
The LA Times claims that Murdoch’s concept is that a new digital newspaper, targeting a general readership, will “offer short, snappy stories that could be digested quickly.”
It says that the publication would operate under Murdoch’s New York Post, and would be overseen by its managing editor, Jesse Angelo.
The subscription fee is yet to be determined.
A source familiar with the idea, quoted in The LA Times, says that the company “envisions a staff of several dozen reporters and editors.”
The digital newspaper would be available as an application for the iPad, other tablet computers, and mobile phones.
