A music-industry backed video site is set to launch in the UK next month.

Vevo already attracts more than 50 million US users (after launching in 2009), who use the site to view 30,000 music videos and tracks from artists signed to Sony, Universal Music and EMI, according to The Times.

The site aims to offer advertisers a chance to target music fans directly, rather than through ‘cluttered’ user-generated video sites such as YouTube.

The website will also be rolled out in the Middle East and North Africa after the UK launch, with other European countries to follow.

Vevo is only second to YouTube in the online video market. In January, the site had 51 million unique views, according to comScore.
