Nabs launches manager wellness training

Nabs launches manager wellness training

Nabs, the media and advertising industry charity, has announced a training programme for managers to support their teams’ mental wellness as well as their own.

The Managers’ Mindsets initiative is a response to Nabs’ All Ears study and the industry’s All In Census that found managers have become increasingly responsible for their teams’ mental wellness.

Nabs’ research found that managers are not fully trained or supported to have these conversations — just 19% of managers surveyed by All Ears had received any training. Moreover, 75% have experienced mental wellness challenges themselves.

Meanwhile, more than 40% of the industry said their line manager would be their first port of call if they had a mental wellness issue. Indeed, 46% of All Ears respondents said their mental wellness had suffered while their manager settled into their role, while 60% said their manager was promoted with no training to handle their new responsibilities.

Managers’ Mindsets will provide participants with tools, grounded in neuroscience and psychology, to support themselves and others, as well as creating safe and inclusive environments at work.

Topics covered include mental wellness conversations, coaching skills, managing pressure, inclusive leadership and leading through change.

The course is intended to fit within the working day and was designed by Nabs’ team of experts. It is available for free to individuals at point of access and can also be bought by organisations to use across their management.

The launch of Managers’ Mindsets comes ahead of World Mental Health Day on 10 October.

Nabs’ staff write a monthly column for The Media Leader covering mental wellness and other areas.
