National Newspaper ABC Round Up – March 2000

Month On Month Monthly national newspaper circulation figures for March, released by the ABC this week, show an impressive increase in sales from the Racing Post, which climbed 20% compared to February, and a significant increase by the Financial Times, which saw its circulation base grow by almost 6% compared to last month.

The Sunday Business saw the largest fall in circulation, down by over 6% – or 4,700 sales – in a month on month analysis. Sport First shed almost 5% in sales over the same period.

Year On Year

Quality Market The Times saw the most significant fall among the broadsheets in a year on year analysis, with sales dropping by over 25,000 copies. The Sunday Business increased its sales by almost 30% and the circulation base of the Financial Times climbed 16% since last year.

Mid Market The mid market dropped slightly in a year-on-year analysis, with the Express titles seeing the greatest falls. The Mail was the only midmarket title to increase, adding 19,000 sales to its circulation base.

Popular Market The popular market fell by 3.5% in a year-on-year analysis, with all daily titles showing a drop in sales. Most significant of these were the Daily Record, down 7%, and the Sunday People, which shed 7% of its sales – or 110,000 copies.
