National Press Round-Up – December

The quality market performed steadily in July-December, with an increase of almost 3% to 5.841 million sales. Only two titles showed drops in sales while most of the others reported modest increases. The Sunday Telegraph‘s July-December circulation showed the largest year on year increase of all the nationals, with a rise of 14%, while the FT enjoyed a healthy circulation rise of 10%. The Independent on Sunday will be encouraged that its falling sales seem to have been stemmed with a small year on year increase to take it to 287,543.

The mid-market overall increased by 3.5% to 6.799 million, driven by the success of the two Mail titles. The Daily Mail saw sales increase 7% while its sister tile went up 5%

The popular press again had a bad time, with overall circulation down 4.5% to 15.412 million and all titles facing a year on year sales drop. The People dropped by 7.5% while the Daily Star and Sunday Mirror both saw sales fall by 6%.
