Netflix and Comcast agree “mutually beneficial” deal

Netflix and Comcast, the company which owns Comcast Cable and NBC Universal, have reached a “mutually beneficial” multi-year agreement that will provide Comcast’s US broadband customers with high-quality Netflix video.

Comcast reported today that the pair have been working collaboratively over many months to establish a more “direct connection” – similar to other networks – in order to deliver “an even better user experience to customers,” while also allowing for future growth in Netflix traffic.

However, Comcast has said that Netflix – which has over 44 million subscribers and offers more than one billion hours of TV and film a month – will not receive any preferential network treatment under the multi-year agreement, for which terms are not being disclosed.
