Netflix integrates Facebook for new social features

Online TV and film service Netflix has announced that US subscribers will now be able to link their Facebook and Netflix accounts.

The move means that users will be able to share information with Facebook friends, giving users the opportunity to see what TV shows and films their friends are watching on Netflix, as well as how they are rating them.

US Netflix users will also have the option to connect to Facebook to share activity, however, viewing activity will not automatically show up on the Facebook news feed and users will have the option to disable Netflix activity.

The integration was previously delayed by an antiquated law that limited the amount that people could share about video and viewing history, however a bill was passed by Congress to amend and update the Video Protection Privacy Act.

“There are few better ways to find a movie or TV series you’ll love than hearing about it from your friends,” said Tom Willerer, vice president of product innovation at Netflix.

“Facebook already makes it easy for our international members to connect with friends over TV shows and movies and we’re thrilled to now bring this experience to our U.S. members.”
