The latest BBC iPlayer report reveals that iPlayer daily and weekly content requests were at an all-time high in February 2013, up on the January figures despite having a lower monthly total overall.

The 28 day month was down 4% on January’s record breaking total of 272 million requests, however February’s daily and weekly averages reached new record highs, 8.6 million and 59 million, respectively.

Tablet and mobile device requests were marginally down on the previous month, though still made up for 29% of all requests for content, 77 million requests in total. This is a trend that is anticipated to continue as the year goes on.

Five million requests were from internet TVs and connected devices – 2% of all content requests – which has remained constant since May 2012. The number of requests, however, has increased by two million since then.

Following January’s leading figures, TV requests dropped -8% month on month, primarily by a drop in the number of computer requests, which is proportional for the shorter month.

Traditional linear viewing is still much higher than iPlayer use, with the average TV peak around 9pm at 26.9 million, and the average iPlayer peak at 10pm and at around 556,000.
