The New York Times partnership with Ralph Lauren to sponsor the newspaper’s iPad app has been deemed a success.

A New York Times spokeswoman said they were “very happy” with the sponsorship and would consider similar deals in the future. Ralph Lauren was the only sponsor, allowing readers to access five sections of the app for free.

The New York Times app has been downloaded 2.8 million times since its launch in April 2010. There were 6.5 million recorded sessions on the app during September 2011 (when Ralph Lauren was sponsoring).
