News Of The World To Boost Cover Price

The News Of The World is to raise its cover price by 5p this weekend as the latest figures show a dip in the paper’s circulation, despite a series of high profile exclusives.

The newspaper, owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News International, will now cost 75p in newsagents, equaling the price of Trinity Mirror’s The People and costing 5p less than Trinity’s Sunday Mirror.

The News Of The World saw its circulation fall in the latest ABC results, losing 1% year on year in the six months to April to level out at just under 4 million. The newspaper stoked controversy earlier this year with its expose of David Beckham’s alleged affair with former PA, Rebecca Loos.

Earlier this year rival publisher Trinity Mirror announced plans to raise the coverprice of its flagship Daily Mirror by 3p to 35p. The newspaper also claimed that the industry had begun to see an upturn in advertising revenue (see Daily Mirror Coverprice To Rise As Group Profits Increase).
