A new report reveals that online national newspapers attracted 94.8 million unique visitors in June, with 35.5 million of those UK readers.
The report, carried out by the Newspaper Marketing Agency, encompasses web traffic statistics of the 16 national titles owned by its members, including Associated Newspapers, Mirror Group Newspapers and News International.
The NMA report measures web traffic from a number of newspaper sites, including the Daily Mail, the Guardian, the Independent, the Daily Telegraph and the Times.
It found that online readers spent more than 715 million minutes on the newspaper sites checked in June.
Google is the top search engine to direct traffic to UK newspaper websites, driving up to 33 million unique users, while direct traffic – a newspaper web address or using a favourites link – is the second biggest with 22 million users.
The Newspaper Marketing Agency is expected to publish the full analysis on Wednesday as part of its PressClick initiative, which is designed to give advertisers a clearer picture of the reach of online newspapers.
