NGW Could Bid For Second Multiplex

National Grid Wireless (NGW) will apparently make a bid for the national commercial digital radio multiplex, which is to be advertised by Ofcom this month.

According to reports in the trade press, NGW will formally announce its plans to bid for the licence today and is believed to be about to advertise for partners to join its bid.

At the start of November, NewsLine reported that IPC Media could join forces with Channel 4 to bid for the second national digital multiplex, although a bid by NGW could scupper any deal Channel 4 might make (see IPC And Channel 4 Could Bid For Second Multiplex).

As NGW manages services for Freeview, the bid could see space on that platform offered, as well as on the DAB multiplex.
